End Furniture Poverty has worked with social landlords across the UK to help them to explore furniture provision and to set up their own furnished tenancy schemes so we understand the barriers that landlords face.
Working with our colleagues in our sister charity FRC Living, we have created Furniture Flex specifically to overcome all of the barriers that social landlords have to overcome, and to respond to their concerns about furnished tenancies.
“We don’t have the capital available to buy the furniture” – Furniture Flex has flexible procurement routes so landlords can buy the furniture, they can rent the furniture, or they can do a mixture of both.
“We wouldn’t be able to cope with the admin burden” – Furniture Flex has been designed to minimise the admin tasks for landlords with an easy to use app and website where housing staff and tenants can access their accounts, return items, and much more.
“We worry furnished tenancies are a poverty trap for tenants.” – Furniture Flex’s rental option means if a tenant’s circumstances do change, they can simply return items and the charges will be removed from their rental account in less than a week. It means that tenants get what they need now, with the flexibility to change or end their agreement, rather than leaving them living in furniture poverty.
