Living without a wardrobe or chest of drawers makes tidily storing clothes very difficult. People end up with bags of clothes on bedroom floors, making rooms look messy and clothes creased or at increased risk of getting dirty – which is a real challenge when you might be going for job interviews for example.
“Our clothes are all in bin bags, they’re creased, and it just doesn’t feel like a home, it makes the bedrooms look so messy. It’s so hard to keep the children’s school uniforms looking smart when you haven’t got anywhere to put them away.”
There are 930,000 families living without bedroom storage, without wardrobes and chests of drawers.
A proper place to store clothes has the added benefit of helping to make clothes last longer – an important factor for hard-pressed families who cannot afford to keep buying and replacing damaged clothes. Just as importantly, it also provides a vital boost to self-esteem, taking away any stigma that comes with wearing dirty or unironed clothes.
